A Gospel for The Present
We need to get back to the gospel of the Kingdom that Jesus speaks about. Much of our gospel hangs out at the cross. The difference is that the gospel of the Kingdom begins at the cross. We need a gospel that does more than get us and our loved ones into the “Pearly Gates” when we die. We need a gospel that changes everything now. Jesus reigns now because of the cross. And his death and resurrection overcame the dark forces that bound this world in sin and death. The gospel of the Kingdom says that Jesus is on the throne now. He reigns. That’s a gospel that doesn’t just look to the past, but recognizes that there is life-changing power in the present, and that’s hope for the future.
“And Jesus went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction among the people.” (Matthew 4:23)
“And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.” (Matthew 24:14)
