The Great Lie

I recently watched a TV series, where in a sudden twist at the end, one of the main characters gives a heartfelt speech about what she believes happens to her when she dies. She basically said that she returns to the earth and her energy goes back into the world and it is all one and we are all one. We are God. And then she said, “I am that I am.” My stomach churned. This was the message that was ultimately being presented in this story. It doesn’t matter what you believe or even if you believe at all, because we are all connected and we are God.

In the very first story of the Bible, there is a tree that represents the knowledge of good and evil. When the humans partake of it, they are communicating to God, “I don’t need you God. I can decide what is good for me.” In essence, they put themselves on God’s throne and it’s the human’s downfall.

Later in the book of Exodus, Moses is called by God in the wilderness and told that God is going to use him to deliver His people from slavery in Egypt. When Moses asks God who he should tell them sent him, God says, “I AM WHO I AM” (Exodus 3:14).

Many people today think you’re crazy when you talk about a demonic world that hates God and feeds us lies, but we do love to talk about ghosts and the paranormal. Many people don’t feel comfortable acknowledging that there is a God, but do feel comfortable personifying the universe, or worse yet, supposing that we are all somehow God. There are whole new age movements that totally rip God’s Word completely out of context and present Christ as some sort of energy that is all. Out of context, it can even be convincing until one actually invests a little time in the Biblical story. I honestly have more respect for God’s Word being totally rejected that reshaped into ideas that aren’t even there; not even close.

The point is that one of the major themes of Scripture is that we are definitely NOT God. We were created BY God. The universe is NOT God. It was created BY God. There is a spiritual realm that hates God and feeds us lies. To hear the statement “I am that I am” from someone other than God is appalling. I’m not hating on the individual. They themselves are created in God’s image. That’s much different than being God. But this lie that is purported is full of the spirit of anti-Christ. I’m not talking end times here. This is how it’s been for ages. What I want you to know is simply this: the message that we are God is a lie from the pit of hell. It’s the lie that has been purported literally from the very beginning.

Genesis 1:1-5 - Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?” 2 And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, 3 but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’” 4 But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

John 8:44 - The devil was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

Romans 1:18-24 - For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. 19 For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. 20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. 21 For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things. 24 Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts…

Romans 5:6-8 - For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— 8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

John 3:16 - “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
